FULL NAME: Polylactic Acid BASE: corn starch, cane sugar, tapioca and potato roots ADVANTAGES: biodegradable, non-toxic in its basic form, strong, with a pleasant smell, easy to use, safe DISADVANTAGES: becomes brittle when it's cold, it cools slowly, can become toxic because of the color pigments IT IS USED FOR: sutures and medical implants (which degrade in the human body over time), food containers, Single-use disposable kitchen utensils, single-use disposable clothing, hygiene related products. IT IS NOT USE FOR: anything that is subjected to high temperature or strain. STORAGE: PLA should be stored in a closed container, to prevent moisture absorption. If it gets too wet, it cannot be heated with a hair dryer like ABS. ODOR: very pleasant. Remember the pancakes and maple syrup. APPEARANCE: It cannot be polished easily like ABS, and therefore the results might be rough. If using a primer, however, in some way can be polished. REPAIRABILITY: If an object in PLA breaks, you need a glue Super Glue to put it back together. Obviously the Super Glue has its problems, therefore repairability should be classified as "low" REQUIREMENTS FOR USE: print at a lower temperature than the ABS; between 160 and 220 degrees.
